Applications are invited from distinguished scholars, members of the teaching faculty and other academia for the position of the Mamoni Raisom Goswami Chair Professor at the Department of Assamese, Gauhati University. This Chair has been instituted at Gauhati University with the fund received from the State Government of Assam.
Essential
1. Requisite qualifications as specified in the UGC Regulations, 2010 for Professor.
2. Extensive and domain-specific knowledge of Assamese literature, language and culture, as evident in quality publications in the form of books, research papers etc.and research projects.
Desirable (one or more of the following) :
1. Commendable knowledge of Modem Indian Literature (comparative and/or literary theory) with special reference to Contemporary Assamese Literature.
2. Expertise in Indology (Bharat Tatva) with reference to Ramayana Studies.
3. Having quality research work on Dialectology and Stylistics.
4. Evidence of literary response to such social issues relevant to the North-East as Minorities, Women, Gender, Tribals etc.
N.B
• There will be no interviews for the Chair. An Expert Committee constituted by the Vice- Chancellor of Gauhati University will scrutinize the applications and recommend the suitable name for appointment.
• As incumbent of the Chair, the selected scholar will be expected to conduct extensive research on Mamoni Raisom Goswami’s works along with other areas of Assamese Literature.
• The applicants should preferably not be more than sixty years of age. The term of the appointment will initially be for three years. Pay and allowances will be as per UGC rules.
• The application should be submitted along with the curriculum vitae of the applicant and all relevant supporting documents.

Admission into P.G. Diploma Course in Assamese, Oriya and Tamil for the session 2016 
Applications in prescribed forms are invited from eligible candidates for admission into the above courses for the session 2016. Prescribed application forms with Prospectus can be obtained at the cost of Rs. 300/-(Rupees three hundred) only each at the Gauhati University Publication Department (GUPD) from 22-12-2015 to 31-12-2015 on all working days. Duly filled in prescribed application forms along with attested copies of all mark sheets and certificates will be received by the Department of MIL, Gauhati University from 22-12-2015 to 31-12-2015.
Eligibility:
(i) PG Diploma in Assamese: Any graduate of Gauhati University or any recognized University whose mother tongue is not Assamese.
(ii) PG Diploma in Oriya: Any graduate of Gauhati University or any recognized University whose mother tongue is not Oriya.

This is for information of all concerned that Gauhati University is starting a Day Care Centre (Crèche) from 1st of December, 2015, to cater the needs of the teachers, officers and employees of the University. A quarter near the GU Hospital is allotted for the purpose. The University has already signed an agreement with Zutshi Shanti Home Welfare Trust, Khanapara, Guwahati to run the Centre. Interested parents may contact the member secretary* of the Day Care Centre Committee for necessary information. Admission forms will be available at the Day Care Centre, Gauhati University office. General Rules and Regulations:
1. The admission procedure will be regulated by the University through the Day Care Centre Committee. Minimum duration for a child to be admitted in the day care centre is three months.
2. Day Care Centre facility is strictly for the children of teachers, officers, employees, research scholars and visiting faculty of Gauhati University only.
3. The day care centre will run on 6 days a week basis from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
4. The monthly fees of Rs 1500/- per child will be deducted at source from the salary of the parents. 5. At present the maximum capacity the day care centre is 12.
6. For children below 2 (two) years, in addition to the normal fee, an extra Rs 1500/- (Rupees Fifteen hundred only) would be charged per month per child, to be directly paid to Zutshi Shanti Home Welfare Trust (Regd) by the concerned parents.
7. Timing of the Day Care Centre will be from 9 am to 5pm, on all working days of the university.
8. To provide service of Day Care Centre on Sundays and holidays parents would be charged extra as per the requirement of the parents on mutual agreement between Zutshi Shanti Home Welfare Trust (Regd) and Day Care Centre Committee. *Member Secretary: Dr. Sonit Kr.
